What to Expect in Therapy
The most important part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. Every person’s therapy and treatment plan will be tailored to them, with consideration of their personal history, their goals for therapy, the symptoms and challenges they want to address, and their preferences.
You are the expert on your own life, we are here to provide guidance, feedback, skills, education, reflections, and other perspectives to support you in making the meaningful change you want to make for yourself.
Kate is trained in a variety of therapy approaches, including (but not limited to): cognitive behavioral therapy; exposure and response prevention; inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy; trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy; mindfulness; executive functioning; motivational interviewing; and psychodynamics. She uses strategies from these evidence-based interventions, while understanding that many of these were developed in sterile research environments and each may not be the best choice, on it’s own, for any one client.
01
Intake
information gathering
provide context, history, and an outline of symptoms
begin to formulate a plan, together, for ongoing therapy
02
Ongoing Therapy
meet for regularly-scheduled sessions, as agreed-upon between you and your therapist
work toward your stated goals, through day-to-day stressors and/or deep dives into past experiences
can be a short-term experience, or as long-term as you would like
03
Discharge
the eventual goal is always to empower clients to feel like they no longer need therapy! You will know when that time comes, but we will work together to identify the signs that tell us we are working in the right direction
you are always welcome to come back in the future
