We accept private pay and are not paneled with any insurance companies. We are able to provide a specialized receipt, called a Superbill, which you can submit to your insurance provider for a partial reimbursement

Although it may feel like a significant financial burden to pay privately for therapy, it can provide you with much greater protection of your personal information. All therapists are bound by HIPAA, so your privacy should be protected with any therapist you choose, but your insurance provider does require a certain amount of information from a therapist who participates in contracts with insurance providers directly. Paying out of pocket for therapy means that the therapist does not have to disclose your mental health diagnosis, therapy goals, frequency of sessions, or the results of any assessments to your insurance provider. When this information is included in your insurance records, theoretically it can have significant implications in the future; such as your ability to: engage in or continue military service, sign up for life insurance, and choose your inclusion on possible government registries (like the recently attempted autism registry).

Coaching can be a really helpful addition to therapy, and many people find it helpful! However, coaching is not a licensed profession, so there is no vetting process to help determine who is offering high quality care and who is not. In contrast, mental health therapists are licensed professionals, who have earned at least a master’s degree in a field related to mental health; have passed rigorous exams to earn their credentials; participate in ongoing learning and training to maintain licensure; have received many hours of supervision at least in the early years of their career to ensure mentorship and support as they build their skills; and are accountable to strict ethical guidelines and licensing boards. Therapists are highly educated and trained on human development over the lifespan; relational dynamics; and how to not allow their own life experiences, opinions, or beliefs to impact their job and their clients. Since coaching is not a regulated field, none of these safeguards are required.
